Challenge of Running a Freezer-Filled Store

Our store AC broke down on those 99 degree days a few weeks ago, so we had to close the store for emergency repair.  (Thank you so much for your patience if you were attending a session during those days!!)

Desperate to find someone, I googled and found a AC repair shop in Silver Spring.  I would like to include in the blog as a cautionary tale:

Their  technician, came for half an hour and informed me that I need to replace the compressor and my blower motor.  He also advised me to buy ductless portable units by Honeywell.  Since his recommendation will cost me thousands of dollars, I decided to get another company to come take a look.

We found out that my AC was actually only low on Freon, and the thermostat was broken.  It was repaired on the same day without replacing any major parts.  I also found that Honeywell does not have ductless portable standing units – I called the technician back and he said that he will call me in 15 min which he never did.

Whether it is lack of expertise or a honest mistake, I was disappointed with this service call which cost us $$$ and inconvenienced our customers.  I feel an obligation to share my experience here, because I hope you won’t make the same mistake I made – hiring a professional service without personal reference.

Oaks Air Conditioning & Heating Co., Inc. is a one person shop with all work done by Ken Tindle, rather than an employee who may or may not be up to the task. He lives just outside Stonegate (where I live), at 234 Windridge Acres Court, Silver Spring, MD 20905-5638, so he’s very close to you. He’s done work for many people in Stonegate, and everyone seems to be satisfied (we have a neighborhood list serv). His office no. is 301-236-9080. His mobile no. is 301-758-8687.
